DESCRIPTION
The important physical properties of silicon steel include resistivity, saturation induction, magnetocrystalline anisotropy, magnetostriction and Curie temperature. The resistivity of relatively low iron content increases significantly with the addition of silicon. Higher resistivity reduces core loss by reducing the eddy current component. Increasing silicon content will reduce magnetostriction, but processing becomes more difficult. Alloying elements reduce the high Curie temperature of iron, but this reduction is not important for silicon steel.
