DESCRIPTION
In addition to the common categories of electrical steel, there are also some special-purpose electrical steel sheets, such as 0.15 and 0.20mm thick 3% Si cold-rolled non-oriented silicon steel strips and 0.025, 0.05 and 0.1mm thick 3% Si cold-rolled oriented silicon steel strips, used for medium and high frequency motors and transformers and pulse transformers, etc.

Silicon steel is mainly smelted in oxygen converters (also available in electric arc furnaces), with vacuum treatment of the steel and AOD technology (see Refining outside the furnace, using die casting or continuous casting methods. Depending on the application, the silicon (0.5 to 4.5%) and aluminum (0.2 to 0.5%) content is changed during smelting to meet different magnetic requirements. The amount of silicon and aluminum in high grade silicon steel sheets is increased accordingly. Carbon, sulfur and inclusions are minimized.
